Aspiring author and writer of novels. Published, not. Represented, not. Discouraged, not yet.

My Bucket-of-Shame List

The Bucket-of-Shame List is my collection of the books I really should have read by now, but somehow have not. I will check them off as I read them.  Undoubtedly, I will also keep adding to it.

You are welcome to nominate your own favorites, which I may or may not add, depending on my level of interest, and/or humiliation.

Seriously? You mean you went to college, but never read Catch-22?
[Sigh] Yes, I'm afraid so.

  1. I have read three of those books. One I finished yesterday morning (In Cold Blood). I don’t think there is such a think as “books you should’ve read”. You’ll probably have put a gun to my dog’s head if you want me to read Portnoy’s Complaint. I have the word “classic” in horror when it comes to literature. I’d say Catch 22 is good but not necessary either. Slaughterhouse Five thought, I really liked.

As voracious as I can be with literature, I’m pretty sure you kick my ass on some levels. You probably read dozens of writers I’m dying to read. That’s what’s great about literature. Like Jane Friedman says: “There are no rules”

  2. LOL! this is great, Adam! I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in the shame list. I haven’t read “Lolita” which was on my to-read-list. I also had the “Grapes of Wrath” in my hand when I went the library before the holidays :( I put it back on the shelf. Shame on me! But honestly, who has time to read over the holidays? Right now I have three books on my nightstand, waiting to be read (sigh!). If you get to read any of these two before I do, give me your honest opinion.
